• The solubility of cefoperazone in different solvents was experimentally determined.
• The experimental solubility data were analyzed with the principle of “like dissolves like”.
• The experimental solubility data were correlated by four models.
• The thermodynamic properties of cefoperazone in solution were obtained.
The solubility of cefoperazone in four pure solvents and a binary solvent mixture (acetone + water) were experimentally determined from 278.15 to 313.15 K by using a gravimetric method. The solubility data in pure solvents (acetone, 2-propanol, ethanol and water) were well correlated by using the modified Apelblat equation. The CNIBS/R-K model and Jouyban–Acree model were used to correlate the solubility data in binary mixture. Furthermore, the enthalpy, entropy and Gibbs energy change of dissolution of cefoperazone in different solvents were also calculated by using the van’t Hoff equation.
