Extended Middle East and North Africa: Cervical Cancer and Human Papillomavirus: Can We Make the Case for Prevention in this “Relatively” Low Prevalence Region?

• Rates of ICC in the EMENA are the lowest in the world: ASIR 2-14/100000.
• Majority of patients with ICC are diagnosed late (survival low, mortality high).
• Traditionally, the EMENA countries have had a conservative social/sexual behaviour.
• Most countries of the region lack the infrastructure for systematic screening.
• Most of these countries have had very successful EPI vaccination programs.
