Biomarqueurs : pourquoi la « quête du Graal » est-elle difficile ?

A biomarker is susceptible to evaluate a physiological or physiopathological process and associated significant events. Beside the statistical relationship, the value of a biomarker results in inducing clinical processes that may improve morbidity and/or mortality. It is worth determining the concentration threshold that determines the development of such processes. This determination must take into account statistical variability of measurements and biological variability of the biomarker's concentration. The choice of the threshold value depends mainly on clinically relevant criteria.
