Recently, a better understanding of mechanisms involved in iron stocking and transport have permitted a different approach of the numerous diseases where iron deficiency has a proved role (chronic renal insufficiency, inflammatory bowel diseases…) or a possible role (fatigue, cognitive function deficit, rest leg syndrome…). The mode of action of iron treatments, whether orally or intravenously, is better understood.
