Mammography and ultrasonography are the main imaging modalities for screening and diagnostic of breast cancer. Breast MRI may be helpful sometimes. However, accuracy may be reduced in certain subsets of women, particularly in women with radiographically dense breasts. In this field, nuclear medicine should be helpful, with the development of new detectors breast-dedicated with high accuracy, like breast gamma specific imaging and positron emission mammography. First, we emphasis the improvement role of whole body 18FDG PET-CT scan for staging breast cancer, then we describe technological aspects and clinical results of breast dedicated detectors.
