Endometriosis extragenital

Endometriosis is an invasive, non-neoplastic disease characterized by the presence of active endometrium outside the endometrial cavity. The most frequent abdominal localization is the ovary and the peritoneal serosa. Localization in the cervix, vagina, vulva and abdominal wall is less frequent. Endometriosis lesions in the gastrointestinal tract, bladder, lymphatic nodules, lungs, pancreas, liver, brain, and skin have been described very rarely. In our service, between 1997 and 2004 we diagnosed 21 cases of extragenital endometriosis: abdominal wall (8 cases), appendix (4 cases), gut and lymph nodes (4 cases), urinary tract (3 cases), and umbilicus (2 cases).
