AimTo describe child and adolescent changes to the DSM-5 and discuss controversial changes.MethodRelevant changes to the structure and categorization of DSM-5 childhood conditions are examined, and controversial issues noted.ResultsImportant overlaps between a number of new conditions are described, and questions raised in relation to underlying assumptions about some new categories.ConclusionFurther research is required to determine the validity of new conditions, and the clinical and service effects of structural changes, particularly in respect of overlapping disorders, and categorical vs severity descriptors.
