Maloclusión ortodóncica severa de clase II: cirugía versus distracción

Severe class IIskeletal malocclusion requires complex treatment to complete correction of the disturbance. In some patients, surgery is a good solution, especially after completion of growth. In contrast, in patients who are still growing, distraction osteogenesis (DO) has become an alternative, especially in the interdisciplinary treatment of severe dentofacial anomalies. In this review of the literature, we summarize the conflicting views of distinct authors who support different alternatives. We also provide recommendations on the use of these two procedures in the management of severe class IIdentofacial deformities.
