Endométriose ombilicale primitive et secondaire

Primary and secondary umbilical endometriosis is a rare clinical condition, which accounts for 0.5 to 1 % of all cases of non-genital endometriosis. It is defined as an ectopic localization of functional endometrial tissue in the umbilical fossa. Preoperative diagnosis, which is based on physical examination and ultrasound exploration, is difficult. The underlying pathogenic mechanisms remain a challenge. We report three cases of primary and secondary umbilical endometriosis, presenting the ultrasound and clinical findings as well as a discussion of the pathophysiological aspects and the role of imaging for the positive diagnosis of this extremely rare condition together with a review of the literature.
