SynopsisThis article seeks to develop an understanding of urban regeneration through the examination of the work of the Taller de Transformación Integral de Cayo Hueso (TTICH), a local planning body in Havana, Cuba, and of the women's roles, identities and social networks within this organization and the community. An exploration of the community dynamics of Cayo Hueso demonstrates that gender and gender roles significantly influence the nature and focus of community regeneration. Given the central role that women continue to play in the realm of community care and regeneration, it is important to give serious consideration to gender roles, social networks and resource use in the design and implementation of urban regeneration plans and programs.
