Roles of Skeletal Scintigraphy and FDG PET in Evaluation of Bone Metastases in Breast Cancer

With the development of positron emission tomography (PET) as well as hybrid PET scanners with computed tomography (CT), there have been questions raised about the traditional approaches to staging breast carcinoma. In particular, the use of PET and PET/CT for a one-stop evaluation without conventional bone scanning is under investigation. The following article reviews the literature in regards to the continued use of bone scanning and the importance of further evaluation in the era of PET/CT.
