A novel method to prepare highly enriched primary cultures of chicken retinal horizontal cells

► We provide a new method to isolate selected types of chicken retinal cells.
► A bovine serum albumin (BSA) gradient was used to obtain diverse retinal cells.
► The 2.5% BSA phase was highly enriched in horizontal cells (HCs).
► We achieved the separation and culture of HCs.
► This method is also potentially useful for separating other retinal cells population.
