How is the standard uptake value (SUV) linked to the influx constant in Sokoloff's model for 18F-FDG?

The standard uptake value (SUV) has been used for decades to quantify positron emission tomography (PET) tracer uptake (mostly 18F-FDG) in a simple way. It is shown here how this semi-quantitative index relates to the influx constant in the more comprehensive model as proposed by Sokoloff. The limitations of the two techniques are discussed.

RésuméLe SUV (Standard Uptake Value) est utilisé depuis plusieurs décennies pour quantifier de manière simplifiée la fixation de traceurs en tomographie d’émission de positons (TEP), surtout le 18F-FDG. Il est montré dans cet article les liens entre cet index semi-quantitatif et l’approche plus complète proposée par Sokoloff. Les limites des deux approches sont discutées.
