Evaluating persistence of petroleum hydrocarbons in aerobic aqueous media

• BioHCWin model was compared to 489 data points not available during its creation.
• 98% of compounds either correctly classified or conservatively approximated.
• Model performance indicates it is an acceptable screening tool for hydrocarbon persistence.
• Model performed better for freshwater media than marine.
