The interaction of sodium mercaptobenzothiazole with gold electrode and nanorod surfaces

• Adsorption of MBT and formation of (MBT)2 on gold electrode surface were observed.
• Gold metal particles were floated when (MBT)2 was formed under potential control.
• The adsorption of MBT on gold nanorods was observed and the mechanism is proposed.
