The alkynyl gold(I) derivative [Au(C≡CPh)(PTA)] (PTA = 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane) is able to induce apoptosis in colorectal carcinoma tumour cells, without affecting normal enterocytes, by altering the redox balance and without nucleic acids interactions.259
