Identification of unprecedented purine-containing compounds, the zingerines, from ginger rhizomes (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) using a phase-trafficking approach

► We describe the zingerines, new purine-containing compounds obtained from ginger. ► Zingerines contain a purine ring attached to gingerol-type carbon skeleton. ► Isolation of zingerines was facilitated by using phase-trafficking approach.
