α,β-Unsaturated monoterpene acid glucose esters: Structural diversity, bioactivities and functional roles

► Twenty monoterpene acid glucose esters have been described from Eucalyptus in recent years. ► All include the α,β-unsaturated monoterpenoids oleuropeic acid and menthiafolic acid. ► Some exhibit anti-tumor, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial activity. ► Cytotoxicity, bitterness and repellency are suggestive of a role in plant defence. ► Localization to isolatable secretory cavities will facilitate future research.
