Evolution of camalexin and structurally related indolic compounds

In camalexin biosynthesis tryptophan is converted to indole-3-acetaldoxime whereas in the BE-10988 biosynthetic pathway a different mechanism of tryptophan modification via indole-3-pyruvic acid has evolved.
