Protective effect of rutin (vitamin p) against heme oxidation: A quantum mechanical approach

► Several interactions between rutin (vitamin p) and methemoglobin have been studied. ► The results of bond dissociation enthalpy shows antioxidant reactivity of rutin. ► Rutin and corresponding radical reduce the Fe3+ in the methemoglobin to Fe2+. ► Rutin molecule presents an effective role against oxidative damage of hemoglobin.
