This work concerns the photoluminescence of Ca3Y2(Si3O9)2:Ce3+,Mn2+ and the energy transfer (ET) between Ce3+ and Mn2+. To this end, a series of monoclinic Ca3Y2(Si3O9)2:Ce3+,Mn2+ powder samples with various Mn2+ concentrations were synthesized by a conventional solid state method. Phase purity was examined using x-ray powder diffraction. Excitation and emission spectra were recorded in order to study the photoluminescence and efficiency of co-doped Ca3Y2(Si3O9)2:Ce3+,Mn2+. Additionally, luminescence lifetime measurements were performed. Photoluminescence as well as lifetime measurements were carried out from 100 to 500Â K to elucidate the thermal behavior of Ca3Y2(Si3O9)2:Ce3+,Mn2+. Furthermore, external quantum efficiencies of Ca3Y2(Si3O9)2:Ce3+,Mn2+ with various Mn2+ contents were determined and color points were calculated. It turned out that ET in Ca3Y2(Si3O9)2:Ce3+,Mn2+ from Ce3+ to Mn2+ is due to dipole-quadrupole interaction. In addition to that, Ca3Y2(Si3O9)2:Ce3+,Mn2+ shows white emission and exhibits good thermal stability.
