Azathia crown ethers carrying pyrene pendant as receptor molecules for metal sensor systems

► We report a series of crown ethers carrying a pyrene group with nitrogen-sulfur donor atoms. ► The influence of metal cations on the spectroscopic properties of the ligands is investigated. ► We have carried out the monoazatetrathia crown ether showed good sensitivity for Cu2+.
