Synthesis and characterization of mesoporous activated carbon from rice husk for adsorption of glycine from alcohol-aqueous mixture

► Synthesis of mesoporous carbon, pre-carbonization and chemical activation. ► Surface area and pore size distribution were derived from N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms. ► Adsorption of glycine from water/methanol was studied by batch mode using MAC800. ► The order of the reaction was carried out for pseudo first and second order reaction. ► Adsorption of glycine onto the MAC800 was confirmed by FT-IR and SEM.
