Micellar solubilization of octan-1-ol in aqueous solutions of SDBS and TTAB

► Partial molar volumes and isentropic compressibilities have been calculated for octan-1-ol in aqueous SDBS and TTAB. ► Strong solute-solvent interaction was observed. ► 1H and 13C NMR studies are also made to interpret the solubilization site of alcohols to the micellar systems. ► FTIR studies show a change in OH stretching but the peak value of -CC- remains almost unaffected. ► The effect of hydrophobic character of monohydric alcohols was shown.
