Virucidal mechanism of action of NVC-422, a novel antimicrobial drug for the treatment of adenoviral conjunctivitis

► We demonstrated the virucidal activity of NVC-422 against adenovirus type 5. ► In vitro assays show that NVC-422 has a good therapeutic index. ► The virucidal activity of NVC-422 is rapid with complete inactivation of Ad5 within 15 min. ► The virucidal activity of NVC-422 is due to its reacting with key viral proteins.
