► OASIS was induced during fracture healing. ► The callus bone volume was decreased in OASIS−/− mice. ► Type I collagen synthesis was impaired in the callus of OASIS−/− mice. ► OASIS−/− osteoblasts in the callus showed abnormally expanded rough ERs.
