Structure of the Trypanosoma cruzi protein tyrosine phosphatase TcPTP1, a potential therapeutic target for Chagas' disease

► The structure of TcPTP1 was solved at 2.18 Å resolution. ► The overall fold closely resembles those of the Trypanosoma brucei TbPTP1 and human PTP1B homologs. ► A secondary pocket situated adjacent to the active site could be targeted to develop specific bidentate inhibitors of TcPTP1.
