A sensitive electroanalytical method for determination of flutamide in pharmaceutical formulations has been investigated on the basis of the enhanced electrochemical response at polymer film modified carbon paste electrode in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The reduction peak current increases in the presence of CTAB. The modified electrode exhibits catalytic activity, high sensitivity, stability and is applicable over wide range of concentration for the determination of flutamide. In 0.3 M phosphate buffer (pH 7.00 ± 0.01) as supporting electrolyte, flutamide produced a well defined differential pulse voltammetric (DPV) peak at −0.75 V. The effect of scan rate, pH, different electrolytes and accumulation time on electrochemical behavior of flutamide was investigated. The proposed differential pulse voltammetric method shows linearity over the concentration range 20–160 ppm. The achieved limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) are 50 ppb and 150 ppb respectively. For comparison, UV–vis spectrophotometric method was also performed for the determination of flutamide in pharmaceutical formulations.
