Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids prevent atherosclerosis development in LDLr-KO mice, in spite of displaying a pro-inflammatory profile similar to trans fatty acids

▸ Omega-6 (PUFA) prevented atherosclerosis even in a pro inflammatory condition. ▸ Trans fatty acids-fed (TRANS) induced hypertriglyceridemia and hypercholesterolemia. ▸ PUFA, TRANS and saturated fatty acids (SAFA) had similar modulation on liver ABCA1 mRNA. ▸ ABCA1 and macrophages did not co-localize in the atherosclerotic lesion.
