Early-life seizures produce lasting alterations in the structure and function of the prefrontal cortex

► Rats exposed to the flurothyl model of early-life seizures showed impaired behavioral flexibility in later adulthood. ► Early-life seizures increased the thickness and cell number of the prefrontal cortex in these rats. ► Increased prefrontal cortex thickness correlated with impaired behavioral flexibility. ► We suggest that behavioral disorders after early-life seizures may be related to fixed alterations in the prefrontal cortex.
