Depression screening for patients with epilepsy in a primary care setting using the Patient Health Questionnaire-2 and the Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy

► We explored the use of routine screening for comorbid depression for patients with epilepsy. ► Both the specific NDDI-E and the general PHQ-2 are suitable for use in primary care settings. ► Detection of depression can be increased by routine screening and was acceptable to patients. ► More recent and frequent seizures predicted screening positive for major depressive episode.
