Localization and developmental expression patterns of CSPG-cs56 (aggrecan) in normal and dystrophic retinas in two rat strains

► CSPG-cs56 in rat retinas increased before P21, declined on P35, then increased again. ► CSPG-cs56 in the outer segments was the main contributor by P90. ► CSPG-cs56 may provide dendritic structural stability in the IPL. ► CSPG-cs56 in the OPL may provide synaptic stability or form a barrier in development. ► Less nonmigration by transplanted cells is more likely due to immunological status.
