Changes in basal ganglia processing of cortical input following magnetic stimulation in Parkinsonism

► We applied magnetic stimulation in the normal and parkinsonian primate. ► We recorded neuronal activity in the cortex and basal ganglia during stimulation. ► Cortical neurons responded to stimulation similarly in both states. ► Basal ganglia neurons responded to stimulation only in the parkinsonian state. ► Abnormal activity transmission is a major component in parkinsonian pathophysiology.
