Glut1 deficiency (G1D): Epilepsy and metabolic dysfunction in a mouse model of the most common human phenotype

► A new mouse model of GLUT-1 deficiency allowed for electrophysiological and metabolic analysis. ► Thalamocortical oscillations are potentially relevant to the epileptic phenotype of GLUT-1 deficiency. ► Aerobic energy metabolism related to the Krebs cycle is intact in the mouse model, in contrast with enhanced lipid metabolism. ► Thus, we contest the contention that decreased brain glucose transport causes energy failure.
