Protective effect of pristane on experimental autoimmune uveitis

► Effects of pristane and phytol, two pro-oxidative mineral oils with effects, on EAU. ► Pristane reduces the incidence and severity of EAU. ► This effect is associated with a lower activation of CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes. ► Preventive effect is mediated by a deviation of the Th1 to a Th2 type immune response. ► Some mineral oils may represent a new therapeutic strategy in human uveitis.
