An insight into the Phlebotomus perniciosus saliva by a proteomic approach

► Salivary proteome of Phlebotomus perniciosus was analyzed. ► Sand flies of distinct geographical origins in Spain share salivary protein profile. ► Sand fly salivary proteomic maps were established by 2DE for the first time. ► Hyperimmune sera were obtained from animals immunized by the bites of sand flies. ► Mice and hamsters sera used in 2DE-WB revealed different immunogenic proteins.
