Cardiovascular complications in patients with megaesophagus due to Chagas disease undergoing the Serra-Dória operation

► 76 patients with chagasic megaesophagus were operated on by the Serra-Dória procedure. ► Advanced megaesophagus (grades III/IV) was found in 65 (86%) patients. ► 29 (38%) patients showed cardiovascular complications in the perioperative period. ► Age > 61 years was the only independent predictor of cardiovascular complications. ► The Serra-Doria operation shows a high-frequency of cardiovascular complications.
