Seroepidemiological survey of Leishmania infantum infection in dogs from northeastern Portugal

► Sero-epidemiological survey in 654 dogs from Portugal. ► Serum samples evaluated by DAT and by ELISA using five different defined antigens. ► Seroprevalence was 21.3%. ► A high degree of agreement was found between DAT and LAM-ELISA. ► Clinical status and Toxoplasma infection identified as risk factors.
