European ring trial to evaluate ELISAs for the diagnosis of infection with Rift Valley fever virus

► A ring trial to evaluate Rift Valley fever ELISAs was performed by six European laboratories. ► Five ELISAs were evaluated, of which two detect specifically IgM antibodies. ► The results suggest that primary screening as well as serological confirmation using commercially available ELISAs is feasible. ► More extensive validations with sera of known IgM antibodies are required to determine agreement between the available IgM ELISAs.
