Identification of a genetically diverse sequence of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus in Slovenia and the impact on the sensitivity of four molecular tests

► Sensitivity of three different commercial real-time PCR kits for the detection of circulating PRRSV field strains. ► Direct sequencing of the positive samples collected from 30 selected herds was performed. ► Determination of new genetic strains of PRRSV detected in Slovenia. ► Sequencing of all detected field strains becomes important tool for improving the diagnosis of PRRSV by RT-PCR methods.
