In situ methane and nitrous oxide fluxes in soil from a transect in Hennequin Point, King George Island, Antarctic

► The effects of vegetal cover and sea birds on soil greenhouse gases were evaluated. ► Birds and vegetation increased the soil methane uptake and nitrous oxide emission. ► Nitrous oxide was the main component of the global warming potential. ► Poor-drainage effect on soil gases fluxes was alleviated by its coarse texture.
