Automated evaluation of the effect of ionic liquids on catalase activity

► We developed an SIA assay for the assessment of ionic liquid's effect on catalase. ► Seven ionic liquids presenting significant structural differences were tested IC50 values were calculated for all the tested compounds. ► Preferential inhibition of catalase by BF4-, pyrrolidinium and tetrabutylphosphonium. ► The methodology intends to be a screening test for the evaluation of ILs toxicity.
