Acute non-cancer mortality excess after polychlorinated biphenyls and polychlorinated dibenzofurans mixed exposure from contaminated rice oil: Yusho

► Severe food poisoning by PCBs and PCDF, termed “Yusho”, occurred in Japan in 1968. ► We conducted an area-based SMRs study at a severely affected area. ► Shortly after the exposure, SMRs of non-cancer mortality was increased, especially DM, CVD, and pneumonia/bronchitis. ► Study provides further evidence on acute effects on non-cancer mortality in Yusho.
