Modelling inhibitory effects of long chain fatty acids in the anaerobic digestion process

► Two new LCFA-inhibition models are proposed, compatible with the full ADM1 model. ► Models include adsorption process and saturate/un-saturate LCFA degraders. ► A new state variable that accounts for the cell damage is also considered. ► Acetoclastic population is confirmed to be the most sensitive to LCFA inhibition. ► The distribution of the saturated/unsaturated degraders plays a major role.
