Bottled mineral water as a potential source of antibiotic resistant bacteria

► Bacterial diversity and antimicrobial resistance were examined in 3 mineral waters. ► MAR bacteria were found in every batch at counts up to 102 CFU mL−1. ► Variovorax, Bosea, Ralstonia, among others, exhibited the highest multi-resistance indices. ► The same species isolated from different brands harbored distinct resistance patterns. ► Bottled mineral water is a potential source of antibiotic resistant bacteria to humans.
