The antioxidative and antimicrobial properties of the blue honeysuckle (Lonicera caerulea L.), Siberian rhubarb (Rheum rhaponticum L.) and some other plants, compared to ascorbic acid and sodium nitrite

► R. rhaponticum exhibited the highest antimicrobial properties compared to the other studied plants. ► The highest antioxidative properties were found with L. caerulea and R. rhaponticum petiole. ► L. caerulea had high antimicrobial properties against foodborne pathogens but not against probiotic bacteria.
