Development of a hybrid model strategy for monitoring membrane bioreactors

► Hybrid models combining ASM and PLS were developed for monitoring a MBR. ► Hybrid models incorporate additional monitoring parameters to improve ASM prediction. ► 2D fluorescence data was incorporated in addition to operation and analytic data. ► Indicators of effluent quality and biomass were successfully modelled. ► ASM prediction can thus be improved in real-time without laboratory analysis.
