- A novel Fe3O4-catalyzed sonophotochemical Fenton-like system was developed.
- US/UV/Fe3O4/Ox system exhibited synergistic degradation and mineralization of SMZ.
- Ultrasound eliminated initial SMZ degradation lag in the systems without pre-dissolution.
- The reaction mechanism involved an iron cycle and a series of radical reactions.
- The role of ultrasound was to induce heterogeneous/homogeneous sonochemcial cavitation effect.
