Characterization of a novel alkali-stable and salt-tolerant α-amylase from marine bacterium Zunongwangia profunda

- A novel gene encoding an α-amylase was cloned from marine bacterium.
- The enzyme had a salinity-tolerance range of 0-5 M NaCl with a salt optimum at 2 M.
- Enzyme thermostability was improved by 53.6-fold in the presence of 2 M NaCl.
- The enzyme was stable at pH 10.0 and 11.0 after 5-day pre-incubation at 25 °C.
