Crack detection in photovoltaic cells by interferometric analysis of electronic speckle patterns

► ESPI method was used as a tool for rapid quality assessment of PV cells. ► Short duration heating induces cell-bowing large enough for hairline crack detection. ► Speckle patterns imparted allow for quantification of crack size, location and type. ► Both surface and through cracks were manifested by chevron-shaped and broken fringes.
